Save-the-Date Wording When the Venue Is Still Unconfirmed
You can send a save-the-date with a confirmed date and city while leaving the venue open. Say clearly what is known and avoid creating map buttons or travel instructions for a location that has not been booked.
Publish only confirmed facts
“Save the date for [names] on [date] in [city]. The formal invitation and venue details will follow.” If the date itself is not fixed, use a general engagement announcement instead of asking guests to reserve a specific day. Do not use sample venue text as a placeholder on a public page.
Consider travelling guests
Tell guests when you expect to share fuller details if the hosts have a realistic plan. Encourage them to wait for confirmed arrangements before relying on any accommodation or transport suggestion. Avoid implying that rooms or transfers will be provided when those decisions are still open.
Prepare the follow-up
Maintain the recipient list so the formal invitation reaches the same households where appropriate. Once the venue is confirmed, verify the address, entrance pin and event timing before updating the page. Send a direct follow-up; guests may not revisit a save-the-date link on their own. Limited, accurate information supports planning better than a complete-looking invitation filled with guesses.
