Explaining Wedding Local Time to Guests Abroad
Guests reading an invitation overseas need to know the time at the wedding venue. Label the venue's time zone explicitly, and distinguish an in-person event from any online viewing schedule.
Start with the venue time
Write the full event date and time followed by “India Standard Time (IST, UTC+05:30)” for an event in India. Include the venue city. Avoid relying on the viewer's phone to infer the correct zone from a decorative invitation image.
Keep conversions deliberate
If you provide another country's equivalent time, verify it for the actual event date, especially where daylight-saving changes apply. The converted date may differ from the venue date. A simpler approach is to give the authoritative venue time and a correctly configured calendar entry that guests can inspect in their own calendar.
Review travel and livestream details
Flight arrival times, shuttle departure and online viewing may follow different schedules. Label them separately. Do not promise a livestream or recording until it has been arranged. Ask a guest in another country to read back the event time and date after opening the invite. That quick check can catch an ambiguity before it affects travel plans.
