Proofing Wedding Invitations When Family Surnames Differ
Different surnames, initials and naming traditions need careful proofing. Never assume that spouses, parents and children share a surname, or that the couple plans to change their names after the wedding.
Collect display names directly
Ask each named host and both partners for the exact spelling they want published. Keep the preferred display name separate from administrative records. If a family uses initials, confirm their order and punctuation instead of expanding them from memory.
Read names in context
A name can be correct by itself and still appear beside the wrong role or family. Review the complete host line and the couple's order in every language. Ask someone who understands the language to check the final visual proof, including line breaks that may split a name awkwardly.
Use one approved record
Store the approved text in a simple content sheet and paste from that record into each format. Search old drafts for the previous spelling before export. Check the share-preview title and page address too, because names may appear outside the visible card. Record who approved the final wording so later corrections are deliberate rather than guesses made during a rushed handover.
