Open almost any Hindi wedding card from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar or Delhi and the last line most guests read with a smile is the bal manuhar (बाल मनुहार) — a short, affectionate plea "from the children of the family" asking you to come. Mama ji ki shaadi mein zaroor aana. It is tiny, often rhymed, sometimes written in baby-talk spelling, and it does something the formal parent-led wording cannot: it makes the invitation feel personal.

Most pages that rank for "bal manuhar for wedding card" are long lists of copied shayari. This guide is different. It explains where the line sits on the card, how to pick the right relation word, which lines to avoid on a formal card, how to adapt bal manuhar for WhatsApp, PDF and wedding website invites, and gives you fresh relation-wise lines in Hindi and English you can paste and edit.

What a bal manuhar line is (and where it sits)

"Manuhar" means a loving, insistent request — the way a host in Rajasthan keeps urging one more helping. A bal manuhar is that request voiced by the youngest members of the family: nephews, nieces, younger cousins, sometimes grandchildren.

On a traditional Hindi card it usually comes at the very end, after the formal sections. A typical order looks like this:

Card sectionWhat it doesWho is named
Mangal shloka / ॥ Auspicious openingDeity line only
Main invitation (आमंत्रण)Formal request from parents or eldersHosts, bride and groom with चि. कां.
Function detailsDates, times, venuesEvent names
Relatives eager to welcome youUncles, aunts, cousins
Playful plea from the childrenChildren's first names

Some families print it inside a small decorative box or along the bottom border; others put it on the RSVP or reply card. On digital invites it works best as the last frame or last section — the same "signature" position it holds on paper.

First, get the relation word right

The single most common mistake is using the wrong relation. The line is written from the child's point of view, so the word depends on how the bride or groom is related to that child, not to the hosts.

Child's relation to the bride or groomWord the child usesExample line opening
Child of the groom's or bride's sister
Child of the groom's elder brother
Child of the bride's brother
Child of the groom's younger brother (if he married first)ताऊ जीताऊ जी की शादी में…
Younger sibling or cousin
Child of a cousin of the bride or groomSame words, usually with

If children from both sides of the family are being named, either write one neutral line ("हमारे घर शादी है") or print two card versions — one for the bride's side, one for the groom's — each with its own relation word. Mixed relation words on a single card confuse guests.

Seven rules for a bal manuhar that reads well

  1. One or two lines only. It is a signature, not a poem. Long verses crowd the card and look copied.
  2. Rhyme is optional; warmth is not. A plain line like "भैया की शादी में आपका इंतज़ार रहेगा" works as well as a rhyming couplet.
  3. Use baby-talk spelling sparingly. Lines such as "जलूल जलूल आना" are affectionate, but on a formal family card some elders read them as careless typos. Use the standard spelling (ज़रूर) on the printed card and keep the baby-talk version for WhatsApp or the video invite.
  4. Skip money and gift jokes on the main card. Popular lines about envelopes, old notes or "shagun" are fine in a cousins' group chat, not on a card going to your father's colleagues.
  5. Name the children, not their ages. First names are standard. On public digital invites or websites, check with the children's parents before adding names and never add school names, photos with uniforms, or other identifying details.
  6. Match the tone of the rest of the card. A Sanskrit-heavy, gold-foil card with a slapstick bal manuhar feels mismatched. A modern minimal card can carry a cheekier line.
  7. Proofread the matras. Devanagari often breaks when a PDF is exported with the wrong font — छोटी इ, अनुस्वार and nukta (ज़) are the usual casualties. Check the final file on a phone.

Function-specific one-liners

If each function has its own card, slide or website section, a tiny bal manuhar per function adds charm without repeating the main line:

FunctionLine

English bal manuhar lines for NRI and mixed-language guests

Many families now send a bilingual card, or an English version for friends, colleagues and relatives abroad. A literal translation of a Hindi rhyme rarely works — write the English line fresh:

  • "Our Mama is getting married, and we have practised our dance. Please come and watch!"
  • "Bua's wedding won't feel complete without you. Love, the little ones."
  • "We have been told to behave at Chachu's wedding. Come and help us try."
  • "Didi is getting married — please come and bless her (and dance with us)."
  • "Save us a spot on the dance floor at Bhaiya's sangeet!"
  • "From the youngest members of the family: we can't wait to see you."

For a bilingual card, place the Hindi line first and the English line directly beneath it in a smaller size, or keep Hindi on the Hindi page and English on the English page. Avoid mixing scripts inside one sentence.

Bal manuhar on digital invites, PDFs and wedding websites

Digital formats give the line more room — use it, but keep the spirit.

  • Video invite: Put the bal manuhar on the closing frame, after the venue and RSVP details, so it is the last thing guests see. A two-second clip of the children holding a hand-lettered card is often more memorable than any rhyme.
  • PDF card: Keep it on the final page with the children's names. Embed the Devanagari font when exporting so the line does not turn into boxes on older phones.
  • WhatsApp forward text: Many families send the card with a short message. You can end that message with the casual version: "— और बच्चों की तरफ़ से: चाचू की शादी में ज़रूर आना!"
  • Wedding website: A small "From the little ones" or "बच्चों की ओर से" block near the bottom of the home or RSVP page works well. If your family uses a LoveSolutions wedding website or digital invitation, this is a natural place for the line — it stays editable if you need to fix a spelling or add a cousin's name after the card has gone out.
  • Voice note: For elders who prefer audio, a 10-second voice note of the children saying the line, sent along with the card, often gets more replies than the card itself.

Sample closing block for a Hindi wedding card

Use this as a layout guide and replace the placeholders:

स्वागतोत्सुक: [चाचा-चाची, ताऊ-ताई, मामा-मामी के नाम] दर्शनाभिलाषी: [परिवार के अन्य सदस्यों के नाम] विनीत: [मुख्य परिवार का नाम] परिवार बाल मनुहार: चाचू की बारात में ढोल बजेगा, आप आएँगे तो रंग जमेगा। — [बच्चे का नाम], [बच्चे का नाम], [बच्चे का नाम]

Keep the bal manuhar visually lighter than the formal sections — a smaller font, a softer colour, or a small motif — so it reads as a sweet sign-off rather than a second invitation.

FAQ

Is bal manuhar only for Hindi cards? The term is Hindi, and the custom is strongest in Hindi-speaking states and Marwari families, but many Gujarati, Punjabi and bilingual cards now include a similar children's line in their own language or in English.

Can we include a bal manuhar if the family has no small children? Yes. Younger cousins or even teenagers can "sign" it, or you can use a neutral line from "the youngest members of the family".

Should the bal manuhar go on every card version? Usually yes for family and community guests. For a formal reception card sent to business associates, some families drop it and keep it only on the main family card and digital invite.

Where do we put it on a wedding website? Near the bottom of the home page or RSVP page, in a short section of its own. Keep names editable so you can correct them without resending the link.

A good bal manuhar takes ten seconds to read and is remembered long after the venue address is forgotten. Pick the right relation word, keep it short, match it to your card's tone — and let the children have the last word.
